Women from Khedla village stop the fraud in MNREGA

Khelda village is located 15 Km far from Block office Laxmangarh. Most of the households work as wage laborers. 147 women from the village have joined 14 SHGs formed in the village. SHGs are represented at a forum called Village Rights Committee (VRC) and an Adhikar Sakhi was trained as a community level worker.

The issue of needy families not getting work under MGNREGA due to fraud (proxy attendance) at job sites by mate was raised in the VRC. However, the mate and secretary threatened to file case against them for interrupting government program. Women submitted their grievance at the office of Block Development Officer and Sub-Divisional Magistrate at Laxmangarh. The SDM and BDO took the issue seriously and examined the case physically, suspended the mate and secretary got warning.

Poonam, the VRC member, was appointed as mate on the job site. She also received training as a Mate.
